Ontario Patient Self- Management Network:
IOHO is a leading partner in the establishment of a province wide network of patient self management programs to promote collaboration, joint research, and dissemination of best practices. www.ontpsm.net
Optimizing Therapy:
This program, provided in partnership with specific disease groups, is designed for patients undergoing difficult treatment regimens (such as chemotherapy, radiation, interferon, surgery, transplant) to help them learn skills and strategies to better manage their treatment, to achieve better treatment outcomes and to feel better during therapy.
Chronic Anemia Network:
This is a collaboration among patient and professional groups working with chronic anemia conditions (thalassemia, sickle cell disease, Fanconi, aplastic anemia, and myelodysplasia) to conduct research and improve treatment and care.
Quality of Life and Treatment for Chronic Disease:
The treatments for chronic disease can have as serious an impact on quality of life as the disease itself. A current project seeks to develop a validated research tool to examine the impact of red blood cell transfusions and iron removal therapy on Quality of Life.
Standards of Care:
Within a regionalized healthcare environment, consensual standards of care will help ensure all patients have access to evidence-based optimal care. An initial project of IOHO is to define the Standards of Care for thalassemia, sickle cell disease, and myelodysplasia.
